I had just found out that the Multiplayer button on the original FEAR just installed the horrible DRM called SecuROM all over my computer. It's in the Registry and the AppData folder on Windows 7. I have screenshots and [url=http://static01.gog.com/upload/forum/2015/02/24f631300820787757d616ea843cc3ca3ed24c47.png]here. SecuROM was definitely NOT on my computer before I had installed FEAR. I can't believe GOG left this horrible DRM in the game! How do I get rid of it?

1st: from the game page: NOTE: Online multiplayer functionality for this game has been disabled and is no longer accessible. Multiplayer is available only through a LAN connection.

2nd: contact support.

Well why was SecuROM still installed with FEAR? All I did was click on the Multiplayer button on the Main Menu and then I found out it installed SecuROM. Why was this here? Why didn't GOG remove it?
Hmmm did it actually install SecuRom? Or are certain traces entered which makes the game happy without actually installing it? (Much like having a steam.dll file with games even if we don't use steam).

More checking is required, like what files it adds to the computer. The files noted in the second screenshot aren't drivers or anything... and being 444 bytes, i wonder what the contents are if you open them in notepad...

Is there a tool to get rid of all the SecuROM entries in the Registry and the AppData folder? For all I know SecuROM could be hidden in other places. But when I did a web search for how to get rid of SecuROM, I'm getting different entries for everything so I don't know which tool to use. Do you know how to get rid of this?
Not sure... But i see a few references to a Securom.dll file which is suppose to be 144k in size. Do a search for that, for now i'm glancing over for a more positive identifier if you actually have it installed, if no binaries are actually installed and only a few files are checked if they exist for the system to work, i wouldn't qualify that as SecuRom. But if there is a binary that's activated, then we have a problem....

I'll keep looking for the next while...

edit: Also look for the following files (* means it's a wildcard) -- Source

drm_dyndat_*.dll
drm_dialogs.dll
SecuExp.exe
paul.dll

Regardless it looks like it's a multi-stage process to fully remove SecuRom... I hope you only have trace files that satisfies the game and not the actual DRM. If you do have the DRM, contact support for help and hopefully they will get the devs to remove it as it shouldn't be there.

Well back then when I used WindowsXP there was a tool from SecuRom to remove it. After applying that "tool" I had still processes running in the background that belonged to SecuRom. I found some guides but they were so exhaustive and as you said differed that I just decided to install a new WindowsXP.

SecuExp.exe
Which directory has those files?
Hmmm at the top of the source i'm looking at is very specific that Electronic Arts Download Manager might have installed SecuRom... I don't suppose you use EA's DD service?

Just search all of your C drive... It will take a few minutes for each... (Although Program files or Windows\System is most likely)

Is there a program that can get rid of all the SecuROM DRM without having to manually search for everything?
Will this help?

Glancing at a few of these removal pages, not really. Perhaps because there are several versions of SecuRom, and different sets of files and configurations, or the utilities available are just for the binaries, but i've come across malware (and even windows programs) that will re-install the known files if removed and the ones hidden in the background are far more annoying to remove.

Regardless, first priority is to identify if you actually have SecuRom... I'm no expert, so...

Hmmm.... Maybe you should check your FEAR directory and look for the readme file, perhaps it will tell you about SecuRom's presence (or lack there-of)

I've attached screenshots on my first post. It's definitely SecuROM. :( I can't believe GOG allowed this horrible DRM on FEAR. I just don't understand why GOG didn't remove this! This is incredibly frustrating.
Here's more links. Good luck!
