Just passed through Chapter 2 of the first Alan Wake playing it for the first time and Im quite amazed with its quality (albeit with minor flaws). A good "PS2 era like" soft-action-horror that im enjoying. (Wish I could play Control too though.)

So this got me wondering...
Why aren't Max Payne 1, 2, 3 and Alan Wake 2 here yet...?
Control 2, Max Payne 1, 2 Remakes on development too..

Any known reasons?
Exclusivity contracts? Licensing?
Nobody ever asked them? :P

The Max Payne games are owned and published by Rockstar, who has not signed a deal with GOG as of yet. Alan Wake 2 and Alan Wake Remastered, have exclusivity contracts with Epic (unsure if they are timed).

We're also missing Quantum Break (though after playing Control, I'm not sure if that's a bad thing).

And keep in mind, Max Payne 3 wasn't made by Remedy.

...Oh, I was hoping this was about Remar's Princess Remedy games.

Welp, I'll be taking my leave then.

My beating-dead-horse guess of (insert company) not caring about the comparatively tiny amount of money to be made here + loving DRM. And Epic's exclusivity like Grargar said.

Breja: I think you mean PS3.
PS2-earlyPS3 games were almost the same, so I think, yes?
Still I can notice this weird design mentality starting of late 2007~2012 to show in some Alan Wake's sections:

"This is a movie, its a experience, its not a game, just move on rails until this set piece is over and we will force you to the other movie-like set piece!" with no player choice involved... such thing dominated many middle-late PS3/Xbox360 era games... uh... "sadly".

I seem to be in a minortiy here, so I guess you can take what I say with a grain of salt, but I just pretty much hated Control. And mind you, I absolutely love, truly love Max Payne and Alan Wake.

If you don't mind, I'll just copy-paste my review:

The story is boring as hell - the game managed to make the supernatural mundane and tedious. The Fedaral Bureau of Control, the axis the whole thing turns around, treats what should be mysterious and bizarre like traffic violations. The whole game is set within one huge office building. Sure, it's a "magic", shifting, supernatural office building, but it's still an office building. Even if the walls shift, in the end it's a repetitive, boring place.

The protagonist is one of the worst I ever encountered. She neve reacts to anything. Has the same passive, blank expression and the same boring, bland delivery all the time. Found a dead body a man who just commited suicide? Zero reaction. Found a magic gun next to him and is shooting people in the head within five minutes? Sure, fine, zero reaction. Is made a director of the FBC by people she has never met during an invasion from another dimension? Zero reaction. A piece of carboard would make for a more interesting protagonist.

The gameplay is mediocre at best. You only have one gun. It can change modes to work like a shotgun, or a pistol or a machine gun, but it always looks and feel pretty much the same, and is just about the least satisfying gun I ever shot in any game. Always feels like a peashooter. You also have to craft enchancements for it, because every game has to have crafting now, even if it is just boring clicking on meaningless icons untill they make a new icon. You get super powers, but even those feel somehow lacking. The encounters are extremely repetitive and you can't even save the game at will, only at checkpoints, which I hate. There's a ton of backtracking too, because nothing says fun like running through the same corridors again and again.

I could not even force myself to finish the game. It feels too much like a chore.

But, again, this review was downvoted to oblivion, so I guess most people love it.

So do I. I never got to play it because of Rockstar's DRM. I'd never really consider it a true, canon ending to the Remedy games, but I'm still curious. It looked, to me, like a pretty terrible idea, with the different setting and markedly different storytelling style, but I heard good things about it.

Those games are reserved for GOG Platinum Club members.

We can say those are valid critics, which came from your perspective.
Maybe Alan Wake was such a good character, and voice acting in that game makes it feel so much like a good movie that coming from this to Control was a real drop down for you.

I'd need to play it on my own to judge it still, but thanks for explaining it to me, really. :)

About Max Payne 3: I heard that from many people that played the first and second back when they launched, stating that the third changes so many things that it doesn't seem to be the same character.
Others say that the tragic ending of Max is in line with the first games and, albeit being way too tragic, its how the world and life of Max is.

So my conclusion is the same: I'd need to play them to judge on my own. But thats what all media is about in the end, right? We all experience them based on our own opinions and life experiences and 'like or hate' (with all its nuances of course) them and discuss it trying to learn something new from them or just enjoy them anyways.

Thanks for the input anyways.

High expectations I had for Remedy definitely played a part, but even without that, I don't think I could ever like Control much. Anyway, I certainly don't expect you to just take my word for it. You may disagree with me entirely after you've played it, like so many people did. Still, I'd advise you to at least get it at a good discount, or make sure you play it within the "refund period" from you purchase, just in case.

Tragic? I haven't played the game, but from what I remember heaing/reading, it actually ends on rather happy/hopeful note.

Never played it too.
Only watched a couple of gameplays and reviews back then.

Maybe because of the beginning of the game? I don't know.

Payne's games are property of Rockstar and Rockstar loves drm, and even add drm to their oldest games.
Alan Wake 2 is possible if GOG negotiates with Epic, Tim is against Steam, not against GOG.

Tim wouldn't let GOG keep the Unreal games though, so I wouldn't have much hope in that direction.
