I was wondering if owners will get a free Director's cut upgrade like steam?
I have absolutely no idea.
You could ask them...

Yes, they will.

Grargar: Yes, they will.
But we don't know yet the form of this upgrade. A new game in the library, a (huge) patch ?
Don't forget that the previous saves won't be compatible with the Director's cut !

One of the reasons I haven't played it yet. The forced wait is killing me.

Yes. Unfortunately we also have to start anew... and I'm pretty far in the game... oh well...

More than probably, a new box in the library. A patch would make no sense, when inXile has no desire to overwrite the older version.

My feeling (at least, the vibe I get from what I read about it after is was announced) is that it will be a separate game, not a patch. Or... maybe I'm thinking of Divinity: Original Sin's upgrade?

It's for both games. None of the new versions will be compatible with the saves of the older ones, but you'll still get to keep the older versions.
Yes, if you have a copy of Wasteland 2 you will get the Director's Cut for free. The same with the Enhanced Edition of Divinity Original Sin this fall october, if I not wrong.

I, for one, am glad we have a reason to start anew :D My custom-made character's build was all over the place with trying to be a sniper/smooth talker/brainiac/mechanic instead of focusing on one thing and letting the party members cover my character's weak spots :D
